Background and Aims: The long biceps tendon is an important cause of shoulder pain and often plays a multifactorial role in subacromial impingement syndrome. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of kinesiotape application on the long head of the biceps tendon thickness, pain, and shoulder proprioception in athletes with the subacromial impingement syndrome.
Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study. Twenty male athletes with subacromial impingement syndrome were accessible selected, and randomly divided into two groups. Group 1 received a Kinesio tape for biceps and Group 2 received a mock software for the Kinesio tape. Data analysis was checked using the Shapiro-Wilk test and Repeated Measure ANOVA. The level of significance used is α≤0.05.
Results: There was no significant difference in the thickness of the biceps tendon between the two groups in the three stages of measurement (P= 0.147). There was a significant difference between the joint position sense in the two groups at a 45-degree angle (P<0.001), and there was no significant difference at a 90-degree angle (P˃0.05). The results showed that there was a significant difference between the pain scores of the two groups after the kinesiology tape (P<0.001).
Conclusion: kinesiology tape can be an influential factor in reducing pain and improving the joint position sense in athletes with subacromial impingement syndrome.
