Background and Aims: Drastic changes in daily life due to the pandemic crisis of COVID-19 has increased the potential risk of mental disorders among pregnant women. The aim of this study was to investigate the general health status of pregnant women and its relationship with the level of their physical activity.
Materials and Methods: The research method was descriptive correlation type and the statistical population of the research was pregnant women referred to medical and care centers in Bojnord, which among them 55 people were selected as the statistical sample. The research instruments included general health and physical activity questionnaires during pregnancy. Spearman correlation test was used to analyze the data.
Results: The mean scores for the subscales of physical disorders symptoms, depressive symptoms, social action disorders symptoms and anxiety and sleep disorder symptoms were 11.90, 11.91, 12.97, and 16.49 respectively. So, results showed that the research samples were vulnerable in many areas of mental health. However, there was a significant positive correlation (r= 0.54) between general health status and level of physical activity (P= 0.00). Examining the relationship between physical activity and the four dimensions of general health, the results showed that physical activity had a negative and significant relationship with the dimension of physical disorders symptoms (-0.61) and a negative and significant relationship with the dimension of depressive symptoms (-0.33). The symptoms of anxiety and sleep disorders and the symptoms of social action disorders were not significantly correlated with physical activity.
Conclusion: It is recommended that pregnant women stay active and engage in physical activity as a strategy to moderate psychological effects during the COVID-19 epidemic and quarantine.
