Background and Aim: Nowadays, lifestyle changes have led to Nonstructural musculo-sckeletal disorders. Meanwhile, various methods are applied to correct these kinds of disorders. Techniques with a local perspective on the disorder and its correction, to techniques that have focused on the brain to correct the abnormality. In any case, the design of an appropriate corrective method depends on a correct perception of the cause and mechanism of the disorder. The purpose of this study is to review the articles that have addressed the role of the brain and awareness of posture and methods based on them, in correcting of postural disorders
Materials and Methods: The literature was searched for relevant papers published from 2005 to 2020. In addition to www.wiley.com, www.scopus.com, www.pubmed.gov, and databases, Google scholar and Academic search browsers were used in research. Among the 70 papers found in the initial search, 20 passed the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were further investigated.
Results: In the present study, 20 articles that mainly have studied the role of the cerebral cortex, cortical map and voluntary improvement of muscle control and awareness of posture in correcting of postural disorders were reviewed. A number of researchers have studied the brain map and body representation in brain and so the muscle behavior and movement pattern in posture control and have concluded that there is a reciprocal relationship between BRIB[1] and muscle behavior and they interact with each other. According to some studies, the inconsistency of body image in the brain (BRIB) with the actual state of the body, leads to improper control of posture and consequently poor posture. Also, some other researchers in their studies have considered that there is Relationship between postural awareness and muscle dysfunction, followed by poor posture.
Conclusion: Although studies have acknowledged the role of the cerebral cortex and the brain image of the body in correcting posture and achieving the optimal posture, but there aren’t sufficient studies on the techniques of improving this image and its effect on correcting postural abnormalities.
